Holei Tree Blossom
~The Holei Tree (Ochrosia Haleakalae)~
This rare and endemic tree is related to the Plumeria and known for its tiny and fragrant pinwheel blossoms. There are less 400 of these trees left in the wild. These blossoms are much smaller than a dime making them near impossible to spot. The bark was once used for yellow kapa dye and was also used medicinally. It was planted in areas of the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park as part of a restorative effort. The fragrance of this flower is somewhat like a Gardenia. This was my first time being able to photograph this blossom properly, hope you enjoy!
